Migraine is more than just a headache. Anyone who has suffered a migraine knows that it can be debilitating and lead to significant loss of time from everyday activities and work.
Acute migraine makes up the bulk of headache sufferers that regularly present to their doctor. Although migraine is the leading cause of disability in people under 50 years old, patients are generally undertreated.
Most patients with migraine are undiagnosed, and two-thirds are never prescribed acute medicines like triptans.
Given that patients seeking assistance with migraine most often present to their GPs, we have a pivotal role to play in the diagnosis and treatment process.
